Positron Emission Tomography
Sutter Roseville Medical Center
Sutter Roseville Medical Center’s nuclear medicine team works closely with the Northern California PET Imaging Center to provide mobile positron emission tomography (PET)/CT scanning service to its patients. The mobile capability gives patients the benefit of a convenient location.
PET scanning is increasingly used by doctors in three major areas:
- Heart disease: Helps doctors determine the condition of a patient’s heart muscle following a heart attack.
- Cancer: Provides doctors with an early diagnostic tool for spotting cancer development, recurrence or spread. Doctors also can often detect whether a growth is likely to be benign or malignant and can monitor how a patient is responding to certain treatment such as chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.
- Neurological conditions: Recently, protocols have been developed by Medicare for selecting patient’s for imaging of Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia to guide treatment.
