Sutter is proud of its reputation as the place to go to have a baby. While the majority of pregnancies follow a natural course to the joyful delivery of a healthy baby, your choice of delivery at Sutter Roseville Medical Center gives you access to a state-of-the-art Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Our 16-bed unit opened in 2008 as an extension of the Level III INICU at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento and is supported by a team of board-certified neonatologists, and a staff of registered nurses with specialty training in the care of the critically ill newborns. We welcome families from Placer County, surrounding regions and also from across the country and treat more than 700 babies each year.

A NICU Designed for Your Family

The family friendly design of our NICU was created with active input from physicians, nurses, clinical staff and the community. One of the most important suggestions from our families was the request for more privacy and we are proud to offer both private and semi-private rooms. We also have a dedicated family sleeping room so our families can experience taking care of their infant before they are discharged home, while having their nursing team close by if they are needed.

Patient and Family Centered Care

Our unit is designed to provide family centered care, in which the new mother and father are welcomed into the unit to participate in the treatment plan of their newborn. Families whose children have received care in NICU hold fond memories of the dedication of the staff that provide care. The staff develops equally strong bonds to the babies and families with whom they share this special, but difficult, life experience. Each year, the reunion of graduates from the nursery gathers staff and families back together to celebrate life.

Advanced Life Saving for Premature Babies

We’re proud of the skillful transportation services our Sutter NICU Transport Teams provides to families throughout Northern California.  Our NICU’s higher-than-expected survival rate for newborns is made possible in part by this experienced team and sophisticated equipment that includes bubble c-PAP, high-frequency and conventional ventilation, and inhaled nitric oxide therapy.

High Risk Maternity

Sutter Women’s Services offers a comprehensive high-risk maternity program, including Sweet Success, a Gestational Diabetes program, genetic testing and a unique Mothers of Multiples program. We also care for a number of infants delivered by a surrogate.
