    Cardiac Surgery offered through Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute


    In many cases, cardiovascular surgery is the most effective treatment option. Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute delivers the full spectrum of surgical treatment options and has an excellent record of successful outcomes. We are the only program in the area that offers Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH) as an option on 100% of the bypass procedures. This procedure results in a much smaller leg incisions and allows for faster recovery periods with less pain.     The Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute electrophysiology (EP) lab, located at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, is dedicated to advanced technological procedures that are used to study the heart's electrical function. The electrophysiologist, a cardiologist who specializes in the electrical system of the heart, can locate sites inside the heart that may be causing abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias).    Click here to learn more.

    Electrophysiology Procedures offered through Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute


    The Sutter Heart Institute electrophysiology (EP) lab, located at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, is dedicated to advanced technological procedures that are used to study the heart's electrical function. The electrophysiologist, a cardiologist who specializes in the electrical system of the heart, can locate sites inside the heart that may be causing abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias). The electophysiologist works with a highly skilled team of nurses and technologists (ok)to study and treat arrhythmias. Based on the location of the arrhythmia, a range of treatment options is available, all of which are performed in the EP lab. Those treatment options include ablation and pacemaker and ICD (Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator) implantation.   Click here to learn more.

    Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery offered through Sutter Children's Services


    Offering the largest pediatric open-heart surgery program in the area, Sutter is a regional referral center for young heart patients. The program includes full diagnostic capabilities with both diagnositc and intervertional heart catheterization services. The CCS-approved pediatric cardiac surgery program serves patients from throughout northern California and southern Oregon, and provides the complete range of procedures for infants through adolescents. Procedures available include closed heart operations such as aortic to pulmonary shunts, patent ductus arteriosus closure and coarctation of the aorta repair and open heart procedures such as ASD/VSD repairs, valve repairs or replacements and arterial switch, Norwood, Fontan and Ross procedures.   Click here to learn more.

    Pediatric Heart Care offered through Sutter Children's Services


    Children and adolescents with congenital heart defects, acquired heart disease, congestive heart disease, arrhythmias and other heart disorders receive care based on the latest research and designed specifically for each child's developmental needs. Care is provided through the coordinated resources of the Sutter Children's Center and the Sutter Heart Institute.     Specialized Cardiac Nursing Units offered through Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute


    The Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute knows that equally important to a successful procedure is high quality recovery care. That is why we have nursing units that are qualified to handle the special needs that come with each procedure. Patients who have undergone a heart transplant have very different needs from those who have an angioplasty. The nursing staff in our Telemetry Unit, ICU, Cardiac ICU and Cardiovascular Intervention Unit (CVIU) have ongoing education to keep up-to-date with the constantly changing procedures and care practices in cardiology and cardiovascular care. In fact, the Sutter Heart Institute has 4 clinical educators and our nursing staff receives free continuing education credits for pursuing skills education.     Stroke Services offered through Sutter Neuroscience Institute


    In the Greater Sacramento area, Sutter provides emergency stroke care through each of its affiliate hospitals: Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, Sutter Davis Hospital, Sutter Roseville Medical Center, Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento (which encompasses Sutter General Hospital and Sutter Memorial Hospital).
