    Sutter is fortunate to have internationally recognized autism expert Michael G Chez, M.D., providing care to children with neurodevelopmental disorders. Dr. Chez, a pediatric neurologist, has spent more than 15 years working with children with autism, epilepsy, and other neurological conditions.     Offering the largest pediatric open-heart surgery program in the area, Sutter is a regional referral center for young heart patients. The program includes full diagnostic capabilities with both diagnostic and interventional heart catheterization services. The CCS-approved pediatric cardiac surgery program serves patients from throughout northern California and southern Oregon, and provides the complete range of procedures for infants through adolescents.     When a child is ill or injured, Sutter Children's Center, Sacramento's 20-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) stands ready to provide medical and emotional support to families in crisis. Exceptional staff resources are the heart of the PICU. The California Children's Services (CCS) approved program provides the expertise of five pediatric intensivists and more than 25 pediatric subspecialists who serve more than 1,300 patients each year and offer consultations and advice to physicians across Northern California. Many of the subspecialists affiliated with the PICU are nationally recognized in their field. Specifically trained nursing staff further enhances the level of care.
